KWALE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT COMPACT MEETING AND LAUNCH EVENT HELD ON 29TH MAY 2018 AT DIANI REEF BEACH HOTEL

THE KENYA YOUTH EMPLOYMENT AND SKILLS PROGRAM (K-YES)

The Kenya National Chamber of commerce and industry Mombasa Chapter participated in the County Youth Employment Compacts (CYECs) deep dive workshop that took place on May 29th 2018 at Diani Reef Hotel and subsequent launch event at Ukunda Vocational Training Center- Ukunda Town.

The Kenya Youth Employment and Skills Program (KYES) is funded by USAID and implemented by RTI International and its consortium partners. The program aims to enhance the employability of youth who have not attained secondary school education in nine counties in the next three years.

The main objective of the workshop was to share KYES counties experiences on youth workforce development, disseminate the lessons learnt in rolling out Youth Employment Compacts in Kwale County and witness the launch of the Kwale Youth Employment Compact. The role of the Chamber was to represent the interest of the private sector in the forum as it will play a major role in assisting in recommending internship opportunities and job placement of the trained youths. The chamber will continue to play an active role to ensure the same program is implemented in Mombasa County.

The launch was graced by Kwale County Governor, H.E. Mr. Salim Mvurya and an MOU was signed between the County Government and KYES. The governor was accompanied by H.E. Wycliff Oparanya – Governor Kakamega County, H.E. Patrick Simiyu Khaemba-the Governor Trans Nzoia County, H.E. Abdi Muhumed Dagane- the Deputy Governor Garissa County and H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Abdi Issa- the Deputy Governor Isiolo County.

The event ended in award ceremony for the best students’ exhibitors.
