KEBS-KNCCI Sensitization Workshop.

In the past three years KEBS  has held successful engagement sessions with the Mombasa business community through KNCCI Mombasa Chapter.

This year again, KEBS partnered with KNCCI Mombasa Chapter and hosted the fourth sensitization workshop which took place on 28th June 2018, at the Travellers Beach Resort. The aim of the workshop was to educate the business community on KEBS mandate in order to empower them make informed decisions during production and trade in Goods and services.The forum also highlighted the significant strides that KEBS has made in the last one year in trade facilitation and protecting consumers through the help of the Mombasa Business Community.

The workshop was attended by 167 members of the business community and other associations such as KIFWA, Kenya Ship Agent Association,CFS Association of Kenya Kenya Association of Manufacturers and the Jua Kali Association.

Issues raised during this event included-:

  • Delays in inspection, uploading of COC after inspection, lengthy analysis thus causing delays in presentation of results
  • High inspection fees especially for local inspection which is 15% of clear information on values against which 15% penalty is calculated against
  • Repetitive inspection (re-inspection) for goods with CoC or ISM.
  • Duplicative/Multiple agencies such as Anti counterfeit Agencies,KPA(PVoC section,KEPHIS,Port Health,Radiation Board,Veterinary Department
  • Counterfeits that have flooded the market
  • Used vehicles number of years to be reviewed.
