The SMEs Growth and Opportunity Conference 2017

The SMEs Growth and Opportunity Conference organized by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry took place on 6th and 7th July 2017 at The Sarova White Sands resort and Spa Mombasa. It was sponsored by KCB Bank and the Capital Market Authority.

The Kenya national Chamber of commerce and industry recognizes that  the SMEs sector in Kenya like in other developing  countries, plays a crucial role in growing and sustaining economic development and forms the backbone of the economy thus the initiative to organize such an event whose main objectives  was to provide a platform for the SMEs to present the challenges they face, to identify factors affecting the growth of SMEs and to identify areas of opportunity and growth among SMEs, to establish the key drivers of growth amongst the SMEs, to link SMEs and lending institutions and to share success stories amongst the SMEs.

The conference whose theme was ‘challenging times-New opportunities’ was graced by over 350 delegates from the Mombasa business community, Small and Micro Enterprises in the coastal region and people from all walks of life who engage in business. This event also hosted 34 Exhibitors from different organizations who included Corporates, The County government of Mombasa and State Corporations. KNCCI sponsored the Jua kali sector and women in Micro and small enterprises to exhibit and sell their products during this event.

The Conference presented two days of thought provoking speeches and knowledge enrichment with over 30 high level speakers who engaged regional industry players, government representatives, entrepreneurs and business men and women. the speakers included Dr. Chris Kirubi – Director CENTUM Investment, Dr Fred Mugambi –Deputy Commissioner KRA/ KESRA, Mrs. Arjmand Banu Khan – UN Women’s programme specialist for Women Economic Empowerment,Mrs. Jane Isiaho – Regional Manager KCB, Mr. Luke Ombara – Director, regulatory policy and strategy Capital Markets Authority among many other impressive professional and entrepreneurs and  who offered new insights, fresh perspectives and strategies on hot industry topics.Challenges faced by SMEs were highlighted and future interventions were proposed on the same.  Exhibitors, speakers and delegates were provided with networking sessions where they had a chance to exchange first-hand information on the challenges facing them, demonstrate their products as well as provide end solutions where possible.
