Mombasa Business Awards 2017

The Mombasa Business Awards is the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry flagship awards programme that recognizes and rewards excellence across all sectors.Since 2013, the Mombasa Business Awards has become the premier event of the year, recognizing the achievements and contributions of business leaders in Mombasa County. This evening brings together Mombasa business leaders, stakeholders and media for a celebration of excellence in business.Twenty awards will be presented and award winners will be announced on 15th December, 2017 at the Mombasa Business Awards. An independent judging panel comprised of local businesspersons will complete judging of the finalists in each award category. The Mombasa Business Awards 2017 has a select number of awards to truly honour and recognize outstanding contributions made by businessmen and institutions in the county. The Awards honour’s leadership, service, knowledge and the effort of promoting a good brand name, image and reputation among the business fraternity. The Awards main aim is to demonstrate the association’s commitment in setting standards of excellence within the Mombasa business community.

TECH KIDZ EXPO

KNCCI, Mombasa County sponsored the Tech Kidz Expo organized by Tech kids Africa, which is a kid’s technology program that introduces practical configuration of robotics, software development, graphic and character development to young children.

The Expo took place on 30th September 2017 at the Swahili pot hub innovation Centre. Kids under the age of 14 had an opportunity to showcase their work to other children from different schools, teachers, parents and county representatives.

The Expo sought to improve the quality of innovations in the country and quality skill base in future, direct kids who are curious about technology to the right content so as to use it constructively and to create a positive attitude towards science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics amongst the young generation.

KCB/ KNCCI SME FORUM.

 

The Kenya commercial bank in partnership with KNCCI hosted the SME forum on 28th Sept 2017, at the Caste royal hotel.

The target group was Women in the clothing industry who import clothes and sell locally. The aim of this forum was to listen to the Women so as to identify what their financial requirements in order to enable KCB structure products that suit their needs.

KCB also show cased the current financial products that they have currently in a bid to create awareness and also create an appetite for formal financial services that can meet needs of the Women competitively.

 

KNCCI/Kountable Kenya Breakfast Meeting

KNCCI Mombasa in partnership with Kountable Kenya, hosted a breakfast meeting on 26th September 2017 at the Creekside hotel.

The aim of this meeting was to introduce the Mombasa business community to the newly launched Kountable services in Kenya towards supporting trade deals and assisting suppliers build their capacities and improve quality of their process.

Kountable is a US based organization that is in the process of setting up in Kenya with a trade financing fund of over Kes. 1.5 billion. The fund will be accessed by local suppliers to facilitate them in taking up big deals and fulfill won tenders. The company is also seeking to work with procurement managers in building the capacity of their suppliers to access trading finance from Kshs. 5 Million to over 200 million.

DIGITAL MARKETING TRAINING

The Digital marketing training was conducted by Africa 118 in partnership with KNCCI, Mombasa County on 7th and 8th July at the Bridge Hotel Mombasa.

Africa 118 Inc. is a leading Capacity building and incubation provider and is working together with different KNCCI County chapters to deliver their content through free training with an objective of driving positive impact to small, micro and medium Businesses across Kenya.

The Digital Marketing training mainly targeted Youth, women the Business community and trade organizations, who turned up in huge numbers. The remarkable turn up ensured interactive sessions and also showed the zeal to acquire knowledge amongst the different groups. Training areas included online strategy, search engine optimization, search engine marketing, social media marketing, building an online presence and email marketing.



 

 

CCPIT Guangzhou Vice Chairman Mr. Liu Ze Wu Visits KNCCI Mombasa

Following the Signing on the MOU on Cooperation between the CCPIT Guangzhou Committee and the KNCCI, Mombasa Chapter in November 2016, the Chairman Mr. James Mureu has hosted and chaired the inaugural meeting today that was attended by the the CCPIT Guangzhou Vice President Mr. Liu Ze Wu at the chamber offices in Mombasa.  The meeting identified and discussed vocational training for youth and women, training of Chinese translators in partnership with local universities, Investment in the tourism Infrastructure, light industries support and twining of Mombasa with Guangzhou. It was also noted that there is a growing interest by Chinese investors to open and operate local value addition units and industrial parks especially in Mombasa and along the coast due to proximity of the port and the commissioning of the new SGR.

The SMEs Growth and Opportunity Conference 2017

The SMEs Growth and Opportunity Conference organized by the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry took place on 6th and 7th July 2017 at The Sarova White Sands resort and Spa Mombasa. It was sponsored by KCB Bank and the Capital Market Authority.

The Kenya national Chamber of commerce and industry recognizes that  the SMEs sector in Kenya like in other developing  countries, plays a crucial role in growing and sustaining economic development and forms the backbone of the economy thus the initiative to organize such an event whose main objectives  was to provide a platform for the SMEs to present the challenges they face, to identify factors affecting the growth of SMEs and to identify areas of opportunity and growth among SMEs, to establish the key drivers of growth amongst the SMEs, to link SMEs and lending institutions and to share success stories amongst the SMEs.

The conference whose theme was ‘challenging times-New opportunities’ was graced by over 350 delegates from the Mombasa business community, Small and Micro Enterprises in the coastal region and people from all walks of life who engage in business. This event also hosted 34 Exhibitors from different organizations who included Corporates, The County government of Mombasa and State Corporations. KNCCI sponsored the Jua kali sector and women in Micro and small enterprises to exhibit and sell their products during this event.

The Conference presented two days of thought provoking speeches and knowledge enrichment with over 30 high level speakers who engaged regional industry players, government representatives, entrepreneurs and business men and women. the speakers included Dr. Chris Kirubi – Director CENTUM Investment, Dr Fred Mugambi –Deputy Commissioner KRA/ KESRA, Mrs. Arjmand Banu Khan – UN Women’s programme specialist for Women Economic Empowerment,Mrs. Jane Isiaho – Regional Manager KCB, Mr. Luke Ombara – Director, regulatory policy and strategy Capital Markets Authority among many other impressive professional and entrepreneurs and  who offered new insights, fresh perspectives and strategies on hot industry topics.Challenges faced by SMEs were highlighted and future interventions were proposed on the same.  Exhibitors, speakers and delegates were provided with networking sessions where they had a chance to exchange first-hand information on the challenges facing them, demonstrate their products as well as provide end solutions where possible.

 

4th IGAD Business Forum (IBF) Held in Mombasa.

The 4th Intergovernmental Authority on Development Business forum (IBF) was held on  11th -12th July 2017 at Bamburi Beach Hotel, Mombasa. The meeting was hosted by Mr. James Ndungu Mureu, National Vice Chairman Kenya National Chamber of commerce.The purpose of the meeting was to take stock of IGAD business forum achievements since its formation in 2010, increase understanding of IGAD in regards to each country representation, and dialog on agenda for Kenya’s tenure as chair for the next two years.The IGAD delegation also visited the port of Mombasa on Wednesday 12 th July led by the IGAD Secretary General Mr. Joseph Rwanshote and paid a courtesy call to the MD Ms. Catherine Mturi Wairi, 
 

Dubai Chamber, KNCCI sign MoU to boost ties

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that established a practical framework for enhancing economic cooperation and strengthening trade ties between Kenya and the emirate.

The MoU was signed during the Kenya Business Briefing which the Chamber hosted at its premises in cooperation with the Consulate General of the Republic of Kenya. The event was attended by Kariuki Mugwe, Consul General of Kenya in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Ambassador Tom Amolo, Political and Diplomatic Secretary for Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Atiq Juma Nasib, Senior Vice President – Commercial Services, Dubai Chamber, Dr Moses Ikiara, Managing Director, Kenya Investment Authority, Mr. Omar Khan, Director – International Offices, Dubai Chamber, and other delegates representing Kenya’s public and private sectors. KNCCI was represented by the Ag. National Vice Chairman Mr. James N Mureu who was also leading a delegation of Kenyan business men comprising of KNCCI members.

    

THE KNCCI/KEBS SENSITIZATION WORKSHOP

The Kenya national Chamber of Commerce and Industry in partnership with the Kenya Bureau of Standards organized a sensitization workshop which was held on 4th May 2017, at the Bandari College, Mombasa .The workshop was well attended by representatives from different sectors in the Mombasa Business community

The Kenya bureau of standards regularly seeks to educate Kenyans especially the  business community on standardization and conformity assessment to empower them make more informed decisions during production and trade in goods and services, this is in line with their Corporate Social responsibility. 

The KEBS Managing Director,Mr Charles Ongwae officially started off the workshop with some welcoming remarks which was followed by different presentations from Mr. Chriss Kibett,Mr. Charles Gachahi,Mr. Eric Chesire and Dr. Henry Rotich which sought to emphasize on the role of businesses in ensuring consumer  protection from sub-standard goods that may harm their  health, safety and environment.

Representatives from KIFFWA, KAM, KNCCI and CFSA were given an opportunity to give a few remarks on the challenges their members face when dealing with the Kenya Bureau of Standards.
